Meet the Maker: Sandra Pipken of Haus of Photos

It would be hard not to feel at peace at the San Joaquin Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary in Irvine, Calif. The natural respite offers visitors a calming escape from hectic Southern California. And so it was, while walking along paths nestled within the sanctuary, where American Made artist Sandra Pipken of Haus of Photos found solace and something more.

In the company of more than 200 species of birds, the artist began digitally capturing the color and life surrounding her. “The creative process, I thought, began and ended with taking a photograph of something beautiful,” explains Pipken.

She quickly learned, however, that her creative process extended far beyond the act of photography. It was in altering her images and emotionally intensifying each captured moment through photo editing where the artist was able to create something meaningful.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPipken shares her work online through Your Shot, National Geographic’s photo community. Find this artist with archival prints of her photographs this June at the American Made Show in Dallas.
