California artist Ilanit Shalev combines fused glass with colorful leather to create her line of bold and stylish cuffs. Influenced by the beauty of even the darkest periods of life and by both Eastern and Western culture, she shares her story through the color, light, transparency and translucency of glass.
Introduced to kiln-formed glass more than 10 years ago in Portland, Ore., Shalev developed a serious passion for the medium. She went on to study at Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Wash. as well as Corning Glass School in New York under the guidance of renowned glass artists, strengthening her skills and improving her technique over the next decade. “I had no idea that a single, three-hour class would have so much influence on my life,” says Shalev. “ It was love at first sight.”
Her work can be found at Habatat Galleries in Michigan, as well as internationally in her homeland of Israel. “My customers are empowered, confident, stylish, edgy, unique women who are looking for something different.”
